It is a unique and rapidly changing society we find ourselves in today. During the last 4 years, as a people, as a world, we have undergone what I believe will be seen as one of the most pivotal moment in modern human history - a combo 1-2-3-4 march of COVID lockdowns into the introduction of XR remote learning, followed by the release of AI to the public and now the integration of the technologies - all in this short window. This advance in learning technologies is soon to give us full interactive vision tools for every person - much like smartphones, it will offer a "leap-frog" event for learning and training. The expansion of knowledge from medical training, to rehabilitation, to workplace safety and overall engagement in the education industry. There is so much more to come, but what are we looking for in all of it? A better life? Quicker access? Is being this connected to the digital world and physical world a benefit?
As CEO of VEDX, I’ve spent the last several years observing and working with hardware and software for immersive technology and can confidently say it will indeed fundamentally shift how we engage with the material world, both in school and work. It has not lived up to its hype... yet - it has made a couple of debuts but has fizzled, primarily due to hardware friction, inconsistent pricing, data protections, and an overall lack of awareness and training for facilitators. I am personally attracted to the shrinking of time and reduction of friction between what I want to know and when I want to know it, so yes - I will drive forward with jubilee and invite these things to come together with my company. I have began to truly see how and where this tech will take root. What will be the next accelerator? Personally, I think the release of a pair of universal AR glasses that has SIM card capabilities. I don't want to look at my phone ever.
AI is exponentially, BY THE MINUTE, evolving and intersecting with AR in increasingly sophisticated ways, we’re standing at the edge of an educational transformation that will not just enhance learning and knowledge consumption - it will redefine it. Dare I say completely disrupt the economy of education. The integration of AI with AR is no longer theoretical. It’s happening in real-time, creating opportunities for deeply personalized learning experiences, driven by real-time feedback, spatial computing, and dynamic adaptation to each learner’s pace and style. Everyone can give it a try - pretend you want to teach a class in something, anything, and click here.
In traditional classroom settings, differentiation and personalization of learning has always been an ideal more than a reality. A teacher with 30 students can only modify instruction so far. But with AI-assisted AR, students can interact in real-world overlays guided by intelligent agents that respond to their performance, behavior, and emotional state. Is this scary? Does it bring up all kinds of questions? YES - please ask them below - pontificate. However, learning anatomy with an AI that I could have asked questions without embarrassment of my level of learning or body functions, I would have loved it as a young student. Having it respond to the student’s decision-making, the technology enables education to evolve from standardized delivery to customized journeys and gamification. This fundamentally changes the teacher’s role—from information provider and class disciplinarian to mentor, facilitator, and data interpreter.
The staffing model for schools will also undergo necessary restructuring. The common fear is that we will need less educators, but I think we will need more of them with new skill sets, fewer "front-of-class instructors" and more backgrounds in media communications, content curation, and AI specialties embedded in their education. The ratio of student to AI-driven instruction will increase, but the importance of human connection won't disappear—it will be redirected. Educators will spend more time interpreting insights, guiding SEL development, and managing holistic learning plans. This could reduce burnout and increase teacher satisfaction, but it demands retraining and a shift in professional expectations. I'm an idealist, I've known this from a very young age. I'm a technology seeker, I have also known this from about 5 years old. I was also a B- student in chemistry because I could not visualize bonds on my own - I wish I had something like this.
For parents, the dynamic changes are equally significant and scary. "Wait a minute - my child is learning from a machine?!" No. Your teacher is being assisted in conveying information and personalizing learning. The transparency of the AI agents, if structured properly to engage learners, could be available in real time through AI analytics—reshaping report cards to true progress reports IN LIVE FORM. Instead of vague report cards, leaving a feeling of judgement with students or occasional teacher updates, parents can have ongoing insights into how their children are performing, what they’re struggling with, and where their interests lie. Imagine doing career exploration with an AI assistant. However, this also raises the 5 headed dragon of data privacy. This too is where we need a new company, a new mission in all of this to "protect and educate."
My last point in this is to say, the fusion of AI and AR in education and corporate training is not about replacing teachers, onboarding professionals or parents—it’s about empowering them with something that we all want - personalized learning materials that we can freely engage with. We’re looking at a future where adaptive learning environments respond to each learner, while human educators elevate their work to focus on empathy, mentorship, and strategy. In my opinion, it's not optional evolution—it’s imperative. We cannot put the Genie back in the box, any more than when the printing press gave rise to an entire shift of industrial learning. In fact I think we are actually helping bring back the campfire of oral stories with a new digital age.
